The ancient Egyptians knowledge of the cosmos, the movement of the sun and stars was deep and comprehensive. It had profound reflections on their mythology, daily life and deities. Here Goddess NUT the daughter of the creator God Raa is depicted as the night sky with the sun moving through out her body. This was the ancient Egyptians representation of the daily movement of the sun from dawn as if its born from Nut's body. The 1 st level below the solar path is a representation of God Raa boat traveling through the night sky from dusk till dawn. At the 2nd & 3rd level there are 36 figurines representing the number of weeks in the ancient Egyptian calendar with each week consisting of 10 days. There are 5 figurines in the upper level representing the 5 festive days to complete the solar calendar of 365 days.
This drawing is present in many ancient Egyptian temples and was the main calendar that the ancient Egyptians used to monitor the seasons and crop cycles and royal celebrations. The presence of such knowledge shows how advanced the ancient Egyptian civilization was in cosmology, astronomy and mathematics.
